Chilean-American producer and pianist Nicolas Jaar debuted with the EP The Student (2008), influenced by Ricardo Villalobos, and with singles such as Russian Dolls and Time for Us. Originally released digitally on Jaar's own label, Other People, Pomegranates is an unofficial rescoring of the 1969 Russian film The Color Of Pomegranates. The acclaimed New York-based musician has uploaded an Armenian avant-garde film from 1969, called "The Color … I saw it as it was the inspiration for Nicolas Jaar's album "Pomegranates". Based on -- or merely created as an alternate soundtrack to -- the Armenian film the Color of Pomegranates (Նռան գույնը), Jaar’s record swirls around emotions and materials, attempting to forge an identity in a landscape in which there are no easy answers or instructions. This is abstract electronic soundpainting.
